Summary: It changed so gradually, House didn't realize it.
Disclaimer: Does not belong to me. Like, duh.
It was a Tuesday when House realized how much everything had changed.
The change had been gradual. One day, Wilson was still married and the next he was everything but, sleeping on the couch and padding around the apartment in his boxers. The already-cramped living space became more cramped as box after box of golf trophies and back-issues of medical journals found their way into the living room and dining room, and suddenly there were clothes in half the closet and shoes hogging his shoe rack.
He couldn’t even remember what night it was that Wilson had stopped sleeping on the sofa. It seemed like such a natural step that House hadn’t noted the change. It was just something that happened. Wilson worked with House, hung out with House, lived with House, and now slept with House. Just as simple as saying that the sky was blue.
Wilson had gone up to New York to look after one of his other patients, that Tuesday, when Cuddy stepped into House’s office and glanced around. “Wilson still gone?” she asked.
House barely looked up from his Gameboy. “He’ll be back tomorrow,” he answered with a half-shrug.
“Well, can you give him this book when he gets home, tonight?” House glanced up just in time to see Cuddy toss a thick medical text onto an empty chair. “It’s been sitting in my office for a few weeks, and I’m sick of moving it around all the time.”
He nodded, and then paused his game and looked up just in time to see Cuddy disappear into the opaque section of the hallway. He frowned at her shadow on the wall, and then – when that faded from view – the book on his chair.
House worked with Wilson, hung out with Wilson, lived with Wilson, loved Wilson.
Also, the sky was blue.
